The Division of Undergraduate Education and Academic Planning is comprised of several units, all
of which hold the students we serve at the heart of our institutional mission. One of these units is
the Undergraduate Advising Center (UAC), which provides comprehensive academic counseling
to help students achieve their academic, personal, and career goals. The center is the hub for
undergraduate advising at San Francisco State. The UAC helps all students understand SF State’s
graduation requirements, policies, and procedures. Our goal is to encourage self-advocacy,
promote academic success, graduation, and a lifetime of learning.
This position reports directly to the Director of 1st & 2nd Year Advising and functions under
general supervision. The Academic Counselor is responsible for providing consistent, accurate,
complex, academic counseling services to a cohort of 1st year, 2nd year, and undeclared
undergraduate students. Working independently, the counselor will provide individual and group
counseling that requires the use of counseling techniques to facilitate major and career
exploration, evaluate academic interests, and set goals to facilitate student success, persistence
and degree completion in a timely manner. In addition, the incumbent will independently lead,
develop, plan, implement and evaluate Undergraduate Advising Center projects. |

Under the general direction of the Director of Design and Construction, the Project Manager manages design and construction of complex capital construction projects for CSU, Chico buildings and facilities. Construction projects have a high degree of diversity, use innovative or advanced building design and construction, require alternative, often complex contracting methods, and have other complicated construction features. Employee consults with Department and University executives to plan and define facility needs, coordinate the budget, and oversee the contract process from design through construction. Employee manages projects that incorporate complex design features, unusual building materials, and advanced building techniques. Projects present diversified and novel problems in which often, established criteria and technical precedents frequently do not apply. Typically, the employee cannot rely on precedent or standard data in making judgments and decisions.

The supervisor reviews work for adequacy in terms of meeting the broad technical objectives and for compliance with agency policies and regulations. This position provides these services to a caseload of EXCEL students.
The EXCEL Academic Enrichment Counselor, under general supervision, plays a key role in driving student retention of EXCEL students through independent counseling and advisement, in individual and group settings with an emphasis on serving undergraduate students. The EXCEL Counselor resolves complex and/or sensitive problems for students that affect their ability to be successful in their educational and career pursuits and make appropriate referrals to campus services and other resources. This position is expected to develop solutions to individual student problems, including problems of considerable difficulty where alternative solutions are not readily available or where guidelines and precedents do not exist or are not applicable. |

The Director is primarily responsible for all facets of design, implementation, administration, strategic planning and evaluation of the program services in compliance with federal and state legislation and regulations. The Director will coordinate the daily operations and related support services; oversee grants documentation, tracking and reporting; apply for renewal of funding; develop, implement and evaluate program goals and performance objectives; analyze, manage and track budget expenditures and balances, and prepare budget reports. |
