Job Summary: 

Student Assistants play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Parking and Transportation Services Office. As the first point of contact, you are responsible for greeting visitors, answering questions, and providing accurate information related to parking policies, permits, citations, and campus transportation services. You will communicate with students, faculty, staff, and guests both in person and through various platforms including phone and email, ensuring a positive and professional customer service experience.

In this role, Student Assistants will issue parking permits through the T2 Flex system, maintain accurate records of all transactions, and assist in organizing files and documentation. They will support office operations by completing administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, photocopying, preparing memos, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace. The role also involves handling daily mail distribution and managing both incoming and outgoing correspondence. Student Assistants will be responsible for delivering documents and supplies across campus while maintaining confidentiality and discretion.
Additionally, Student Assistants will assist with scheduling appointments, supporting campus events. They are expected to work collaboratively with other student staff and full-time team members, contribute ideas for improving service delivery, and demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, and initiative in handling daily tasks. This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in administrative support, customer service, and office coordination within a fast-paced campus environment. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed to support the mission and goals of the department.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

Under direct supervision, duties include but not limited to:

  • Serve as the first point of contact at the Parking and Transportation Services front counter, providing direct support and assistance to customers.
  • Communicate effectively with guests through verbal, written, and electronic channels, including servicing guests at the front desk, answering phones, sending emails, engaging in online chat, and greeting clients upon entry.
  • Aid customers with any/all parking related matters.
  • Operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple distractions, exercising independent judgment, discretion, and initiative to address problems, and developing practical, thorough, and innovative solutions.
  • Process and issue parking permits through the T2 system and assist customers with permit-related inquiries.
  • Maintain accurate records of all issued permits, ensuring files are kept current and properly organized.
  • Support clerical functions such as filing, photocopying, maintaining an orderly workspace, and organizing office supplies.
  • Deliver memos, documents, and supplies to various departments across campus as needed.
  • Sort and distribute daily mail and internal communications.
  • Student Assistants will undertake additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Participate in special events on campus, including job fairs, tabling, special event permit sales, event traffic control, dispenser coverage, commencement, homecoming, coyote fest, late-night activities, and the first week of classes, among others.
  • Participate in special projects or events and perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor or department staff.

Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience 

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position. 
  • Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative. 
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate) 
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate) 
  • Eligible to work in the United States 
  • Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally across diverse groups.
  • Quick learner with the ability to follow instructions and complete tasks independently and efficiently.
  • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-traffic office environment.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with strong time management and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Demonstrates reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Maintains confidentiality and exercises discretion when handling sensitive or private information.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and adaptable to learning new software or office systems.
  • Prior customer service experience is highly desirable and considered a plus.

Compensation and Benefits: 

Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.50 per hour. 

The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors. 

Position Information: 

Work status: Part-Time, Temporary, Seasonal

Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm). 

This is an 'On-Campus Only' position. Student Employees are not eligible to telecommute at any time. 

As of January 1, 2022, the CSU Out-of-State Employment Policy prohibits the hiring of employees to perform CSU-related work outside the state of California.

Background Check  

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) may be required for student employment purposes. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.  Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check when required may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position. 

Driver’s License Check  

Possession of a valid Driver's License may be required.  Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
