THE DEPARTMENT:

Facilities Management provides maintenance and construction services for Cal Poly Pomona including Custodial Services, Horticultural and Landscape Services, Building and Mechanical Trades, Fleet Management, Energy and Utility Management and Waste Recycling Management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Floor Care Work

  • Sign in and out: pick up and return keys and HT radios before and after each shift.
  • Prepare floors prior to refinishing by removing furniture, sweeping, mopping, scrub, clean, strip, refinish, restore and burnish hard floors, vacuum, extract, spot scrub and shampoo carpet flooring using spin bonnets and carpet brushes, use hard floor equipment including but not limited to high speed buffers, low speed buffers wet vacuums, dry vacuums, carpet extractors, humidifiers, floor blowers and propane buffers, use simple tools such as putty knives and razor scrapers.
  • Clean and maintain equipment running properly after each use.
  • Apply floor strippers, and floor cleaners, apply polymers, such as floor finishes and sealers to different type of floors such as vinyl composition tile (VCT) non glazed ceramic tile, concrete, terrazzo and stone by using established methods and applying proper safety precautions.
  • Must wear appropriate personal protection equipment as needed, i.e. dust mask, rubber boots, knee pads, gloves, eye goggles, hearing protection, closed toe, closed heel footwear etc. stock and order supplies as needed, drive motor/electric vehicles.
  • Assist during floods and emergency situations, keep simple records and prepare simple reports; able to read, write and speak English at an acceptable level of communication effectively, place proper signage when working on floors and post future floor work in advance.
  • Notify Police Department of security problems and turn in lost and found items.
  • This position will lock up state buildings, activate and deactivate alarms as needed and may perform general cleaning functions as assigned.

General Cleaning:

  • Dust and clean building fixtures such as walls, partitions, ledges, windowsills, clocks, blinds, mirrors, entrances, doors, picture frames, hand rails, kick plates, hand plates, Doorknobs, door handles, windows and other surfaces. Remove gum, tape, streaks, smudges, spills, fingerprints, marks and graffiti.
  • Dust and clean furniture such as bookcases, chairs, couches, cabinets, shelves, tables, trash cans, etc. Clean desktops, chair seats and backs of chairs in classrooms; clean whiteboards, chalkboards, erasers and trays; replace chalk and erasers, remove chalk dust and broken chalk pieces.
  • Clean thresholds, door frames and window frames; remove carpet stains, clean mats and rugs.
  • Police and maintain bulletin boards and remove staples. Remove broken furniture to loading docks; keep stairwells, hallways and entrances clear; re-align furniture to established placement; clean elevators, tracks, stairwells, entrance areas and breezeways.
  • During rainy season, place mats, wet floor signs and mop as needed. Scrub and completely disinfect restrooms, locker rooms, shower rooms.
  • Clean and disinfect sinks, toilets, urinals and partition walls, floor drains, water fountains. Polish chrome and stainless steel; stock & clean dispensers, order supplies; clean, stock, organize and maintain custodial cart, equipment and supplies.
  • Empty trash and replace worn liners, spot clean trash receptacles and covers; clean and refill sand ash urns; empty pencil sharpeners.
  • Report work orders as needed to X3030; change lights or call in work order; notify lead of safety concerns and of equipment repair needs. Participate in energy conservation, (minimally lighting), participate in recycling program.
  • Lock and unlock entry doors; unlock non-secured areas by 6:30 a.m.; activate and deactivate alarms as needed; wash and dry towels, bonnets, mop heads and dust mops, label all containers; have knowledge of chemicals regarding safety and proper usage; do not leave trash or combustible materials in closets.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Driver License
  • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety; operate and care for custodial equipment and supplies applicable to the position; use custodial systems such as those used to track work orders and two-way radios for communication; observe safety requirements and safe work practices and methods as required; perform work involving regular physical activity; and establish and maintain cooperative work relationships. Some positions may require ability to move up to 50 pounds.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years of custodial experience preferably in a university or college environment

Background Check

Education Code 89521 Requirements

Applicants will be required to disclose whether they have received a final administrative decision or final judicial decision determining that they have committed sexual harassment within the last 7 years only after a determination is made that they meet the minimum qualifications for the position, and before an offer of employment is extended. CSU Classification Salary Range

This position is part of the CSUEU bargaining unit 5. The CSU Classification Standards for this position are located on the CSU Classification Standards website. The CSU Salary Schedule is located on the CSU Salary Schedule website. The classification salary range for this position according to the respective skill level is: minimum $3,461 and maximum $4,752 per month. University Driving Requirement

Positions that require driving for university business by using a personal or state vehicle must comply with the Authorized University Driver Policy. Driving records are monitored and evaluated by the Risk Management Department. The Risk Management Department evaluates a good driving report based on the following criteria. The driver must: 1. Have a valid California or other State Driver’s license. 2. Have no more than 3 motor vehicle violations or been the cause of 3 accidents in a 12-month period (or any combination of 3 thereof) 3. Not have more than 3 DMV Points, if their license is Class C or, 4. Not have more than 5 DMV Points, if their license is Class A, B, or C with endorsements.
